14-16 October 2024
10:00 - 17:00

Organized by the Transmedia Art department in collaboration with the Coding Lab Angewandte
Hosted by APL - Angewandte Performance Lab

The workshop "Pixels and Patterns” provides a practical overview on open source and accessible AI tools, teaching participants to train a personalized AI model by carefully curating and preparing the data and reflect  on how personalized models can be used as new methods and conduits for creative expression.

The workshop "Pixels and Patterns” is based on the research and tools developed by Frederik De Bleser and Lieven Menschaert in their research project “The Algorithmic Gaze”.

Frederik De Bleser and Lieven Menschaert are researchers and lecturers at Sint Lucas Antwerp. Their research focuses on the connection between art and technology and the development of free software tools for generative design, data visualization and artificial intelligence.

Frederik De Bleser (º1978) is a researcher and lecturer at Sint Lucas Antwerp. His research focuses on the connection between art and technology and the development of free software tools for generative design and data visualization. He leads the Algorithmic Gaze research lab, developing open-source tools for creative AI. He coordinates the master in digital media at Sint Lucas, and works as a freelance data visualisation artist, creating projects for Belgian news and online democracy platforms.

Lieven Menschaert (º1975) is a researcher and lecturer at Sint Lucas Antwerp and LUCA school of arts. His main interest is in generative and computational design and thus sees AI and machine learning as the logic next step in a procedural generation practice. He works together with Frederik in the Algorithmic Gaze research lab.
