in murky waters:
on the poetics of contamination
2026

in murky waters is a performative installation that deals with some pleasantly scary childhood memories and repetitive nightmares connected to the Black Sea and its museum in the city of Varna, Bulgaria. The installation criticizes the traditional ways of archiving and aestheticizing nature by establishing a new practice of the term psychoecology. The idea of contamination is being explored within the project from different moral and extramoral entry points of contemporary uncertainty, combining substances which don’t seem to belong together, meeting outside of their usual contexts and thus challenging the typical order of things. This is why this project attempts to simultaneously contaminate different domains of knowledge such as matter and void, form and decay, personal and collective, conscious and subconscious, political and natural in a dynamic conversation with the public.
