Material Matters

12.1.2022

Camila Sposati is a visual artist and a post-colonial researcher. Her lecture will focus on two of her ongoing art research projects: “Earth Anatomical Theatre” and “Phonosophia”. Considering specific sites and objects from perspectives of their historic origins and their material constitution, she wishes to question the stability of their significations and investigate their potentiality to become subjects.

Camila Sposati was born in Sao Paulo. She holds a Master's degree in Fine Arts from Goldsmiths College, is currently based in Vienna and is completing the PhD program in Philosophy at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Her works investigate transformation and energy processes, using methods that often approach scientific research methodologies. It has examined processes on a microscopic and global scale. In her work, Sposati juxtaposes material and historical processes in order to challenge official time and its significations.

Since 2015 she develops the series Phonosophia - ceramic musical instruments, intersection between dance, music and visual arts. She presented Anatomical Earth Theatre at the 3rd Biennale of Bahia and Archaeological Park Theatre at the Common Place exhibition at the Ibirapuera park in São Paulo. Recently she participated in group shows Tate Modern, Kunsthalle Wien and Tabakalera Donostia - San Sebastian. Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1972.
