We are what we eat. But today we eat from everywhere.
“Anthropophagy” [appropriation of foreign cultures] as a gastronomic contamination: How was colonialist Europe nourished by native agro-cultures of the Americas? The workshop will focus on a specific root tuber, cassava. Manioc has been cultivated by indigenous people from Brazil for 9,000 years, but unlike other tubers, vegetables or fruits from the Americas, it only became known in Europe in the new millennium. During the workshop, recipes with manioc and various types of manioc flour will be prepared and/or presented. In addition, there will be an aesthetic-cultural examination of the concept of anthropophagy (Oswald de Andrade, 1928), colonial extractivism and the diverse nutrients of cassava.
