❷ Preliminary discussions

❸ Knowledge of the German language
Persons whose native language is not German have to provide the knowledge of the German language before registering for the continuation of studies for the third semester.
❹ Admission requirements
Admission as full-time student:
- 17 years of age
- Passed admission exam
❺ Procedure of the admission exam
Apart from an official Identitycard samples of artistic work must be submitted digital as evidence of preliminary knowledge and qualifications. The selection procedure takes place in two stages:
- A preliminary selection is made on the basis of the submitted samples of work.
- Then a three-day admission exam takes place, after which the exam commission makes a final decision.
The exam results will be announced the following week.
❻ Portfolio
The work samples should give a representative impression of the candidate’s artistic work. The selection of samples (digital) should reflect the candidate’s interests. The candidates can present work with a medium of their choice that should be documented by means of concepts, sketches, photographs, objects, models, film and sound material as well as computer-generated works. The candidates should also submit a CV and a recent photograph along with their work samples.

- Step 1: Registration
In addition to personal details and contact details it is required to upload a copy of your passport and a portrait photo.
- Step 2: Upload Application Files (Portfolio)Upload one PDF-file of max. 50 MB. If required, further files (e.g. videos) can be linked within this document (e.g. vimeo allows a password protected video upload).
Announcement of the results of the first part by February 2026, including notification of further exam tasks.

Part 2: Entrance Exam and interviews, on site, all day
23.02. 2026 — 06.03.2026 (exact dates to follow)
The second part of the entrance examination comprises the processing and answering of the examination tasks and a personal interview with the examination committee, which reveals the creative and theoretical aptitude of the candidates for transmedia art.

The exact time will be announced by email to the applicants who are admitted to the 2nd part of the exam.
The announcement of the results of the second part will be announced by 13 March 2026.

Guest semesters are only for students from other departments of the University of Applied Arts. If you are interested in doing a guest semester at our department, please send an application and a portfolio to transemedialekunst@uni-ak.ac.at.
The following deadlines must be considered:

Application for summer term
